I’m seeing an odd listing in the “Trends External” pane on my Mint install. There’s a referrer on the list with the address “whatever” referring to a page “undefined”

Anyone have a clue about what might cause this?

I’m thinking this could be from Javascript aware bot doing something weird. A few months ago I had a Javascript bot crawling my site and it resulting it several cryptic URLs showing up in my referrers. I ended up blocking the bot because it seemed to be doing nothing good.

It could also be from someone using some privacy extension in Firefox or another browser, hiding referrers and destinations.

Does this ‘whatever’ show up in your referrers pane as a new unique?

Yep, “whatever” does show up in the referrer pane. Totally weird.

I just saw a “whatever” referrer in my Newest Unique Referrers pane! Strange.

If this is a reoccurring thing try installing the Debugger Pepper, that can be useful for identifying the ip and user agent of a specific request.

I bet it’s someone using the RefControl add-on in Firefox.

I figured so, perhaps this is the default name (whatever) when this plugin is enabled.
