Mint 2.11 took out my Pepper prefs pane (and more)

See bioneural.net/images/Mint_%20Preferences.jpg

I just updated Mint + peppers via “Updates available” to all current versions. I followed the instructions for updating Mint and for each pepper. Now:

  • Unable to change pref pane order
  • No pref pane available for any Pepper
  • Real Estate data missing
  • Downloads data missing
  • Feedburner/ Items error: Feedburner URL not configured
  • Blog comments error: Blog URL not configured

No idea what gives.

Did you follow Shaun’s update instructions (upload the new Mint as mint_new, rename mint as mint_old, rename mint_new to mint)? Are you sure you don’t have any duplicate Pepper files in your Pepper directory (this is the common cause for this problem)?

Sounds like a duplicate Pepper problem as Ron mentioned. Be sure to check for and remove any.

Bugger! Thanks guys… somehow I managed to miss deleting backuprestore-old. Doing so I know have the Pepper pref pane back.

I was thus able to enter my Feedburner ID so have that working. Blog Comments is now working. Real Estate needed the defaults restoring to work. My Local Searches settings had been deleted too (needing a “/” in the first box and a “s” in the second, for WordPress). My file extensions were deleted from Downloads and no past or current data is reported; I guess it’s toasted. User Agent 007 and Locations are installed, but don’t show in Mint view - I’ve noticed this before - sometimes panes show, sometimes they don’t.

Hardly a smooth “upgrade” (q.v. OS X 10.4.10).

bmck: Did you backup the database (via the Backup/Restore pepper) before you upgraded, as recommended within the upgrade instructions?

If so, restore the database… you would only lose a few days worth of data. :)
