Can a version 1 backup be restored to a version 2 install?

I’m looking to upgrade my Mint to version 2, but rather than simply upgrade I’m gonna cheep out and pay full price… and transfer my 1.x license to another website. I’m too cheap to pay for the upgrade directly! :D

In any case, I’m wondering if a version 1 backup can be restored to a version 2 install?

Any idea?

Hmm, that’s a good question. It might work, Mint should see the older database as simply being in need of updating. Instead of dealing with backups, it might be easier to simply remove Mint from your server (don’t uninstall, just delete the files) then transfer the license. Purchase the Mint 2 license and upload to your server. Mint should detect the existing database and update normally.

Sounds good, I’ll give it a try. I’ll back it up the database first, just in case.

Thanks Shaun.

Looks like it worked except for a couple peppers it can’t find, even though they got copied over: User Agent 007, Window Width, and Session Tracker. Should these be upgraded? Or what might the issue be? I don’t want to uninstall them and lose the historic data.

THERE IS ONE URGENT ISSUE:

IP Addresses are now being tracked as 0.0.0.0 for all visitors. Perhaps I need to update my tacking code on all pages? Otherwise I have no idea how to fix that.

I bit the bullet and uninstalled those three panes, reinstalled the newest version of User Agent, as well as the real-estate pepper and dropped Session Tracker, I don’t think I used it that much.

As far as the 0.0.0.0 IP Address issue:

Looks like when I installed Secret Crushes, it fixed the issue. I saw that there was an issue with XXX Strong Mint, and that it should be uninstalled, but now both XSM and SC are working fine together, so it’ll be a while before I get rid of XSM.

As you’ll see in another thread though, I’d like to see if I can migrate my XXX Strong Mint historic data to Crushes. I’m not sure if this is impossible due to differences in architecture, but it was worth a shot. Crushes just started picking up fresh data, so it’ll be a while before it aggregates quite a bit of data.
