Download Counter Pepper not reliable

page: shufflesome.com.

Problem: When Download Counter Pepper is installed, the slideshow on this page fails to work. This Pepper does apparently interfere with the javascript used for the slideshow.

After 2 days of troubleshooting i discovered that Mint was causing the malfunction of the slideshow. The Downloads Pepper by Till Krüss works ok. The Download Counter Pepper by orderedlist however definitely was causing the problem.

If you added image formats to the list of extensions to tracks, of course you’ll run into issues. Download counters have to intercept the file and then force a download before the user receives the file. It’s same for all download counters on Mint and other platforms. The action of intercepting the file causes issues with Javascript image galleries and even just basic tags. There is no way to avoid that.

What kind of problems would you expect to see with ‘just basic tags’? I am using the downloads pepper to track some images embedded in other sites, forum avatars and such. I am using the .htaccess file method to redirect all requests through the download counting script and the only thing that has happened is that is forces a download if you navigate to the image directly rather than displaying it in a browser, but img tags seem to work just fine. Am I missing something?

It really depends on the browser. Worst case the browser would download the images instead of displaying them.
