Crushes Misses Visits.

I’ve just been visited by my most prolific visitor yet and crushes missed them.

Pathstats shows them spending over 3hrs on my site and visiting nearly 200 pages.

The visits pane shows their hits spread out across the three hours.

But crushes just seems to have glossed them by.

I don’t have cookies enabled on this site but i still expect crushes to be able to pick up all the hits and group them together by IP or hostname as it says it will in the preferences.

The visit in question should be between the as9105.com and the proxad.net entries in Crushes. (assuming it orders entries by start time not end time)

If it helps I’ve included a screen shot.

Crushes

This could probably be classed as a rant, but surely something is wrong if Crushes is missing such a huge visit.

If that visitor didn’t have cookies enabled then there was no way for Secret Crush to group their visits as a session (querying the gaps between page views of a particular IP to build a picture of a session is murder on the database—that’s why cookies are used).

I’m more concerned by the dive in your unique visits that occurred two weeks ago. What version of Mint are you using? Did this drop coincide with the update to that version? Which one of your domains are we talking about here?

When I said above I don’t have cookies enabled on this site I meant I don’t set a user cookie (ie for membership) I assume that if the other panes counted the hits it would mean the users browser was accepting the mint cookies? no?

I’m running the latest version of mint and its peppers and this is on my http://photography-of-rock.com domain.

I pretty much update the same day as you release updates, but I’m not sure if there’s a correlation between the two.

It is quite possible that they are ordering hits differently. Pathstats shows hits in order by the beginning of the session; but you see the ‘39 mins ago’ time based on the end of their session.

even so i don’t think that answers your question

Hey Shaun.

Just wanted to drop in and say that Crushes has done it again.

Visits and pathstats both show someone (I actually know who) visiting my site at 2am and hitting 54 pages.

Crushes doesn’t show anything at all.

On this site I do set “user” cookies so anyone not logged in gets logged as “_Guests” (i’d actually like crushes to show me the IP if it sees the cookie is “_guests” but i assume thats not possible).

I know you said before its probably because they don’t accept cookies but I’m still confused how they can show up in other panes without those cookies.

Not a huge problem but just thought I’d post it anyway.

Thanks as always for the excellent product.

The other panes don’t rely on cookies for their data. I’m not sure how PathStats aggregates pages into a visit but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t use cookies.

If that _guests cookie is just for Secret Crush’s benefit you could set the value to their IP address, that would be the only way to display the IP address for a specific user and not others.
