"My Mint is Flickering"

As it took me a while to figure this problem out I will post this here to help those who are experiencing the same problem.

Although old third-party peppers run on Mint v2 most of their panes cause major flickering issues when displayed causing Mint to become unusable for a few seconds after every action (Page loading, button clicking, etc.). Until the peppers have been updated to work on the new version of Mint the only possible solutions I have found is to either hide the panes (The pepper will still record information however) or just put up with it.

Everyone, please reserve declarations of problems like these until after we’ve worked together to diagnose the problem. During the initial launch craze it’s better for all involved if I do not have to troubleshoot and combat misinformation.

This is a low level problem (might even be caused by caching issues) but I will revisit it once the larger problems have died down. Lazaryn, let me know what browser, version and platform you are seeing this display issue in. You might also be describing the effect of a new feature, staggered pane loading. Have you tried disabling that option in the Preferences?

Lazaryn, can’t say I am seeing any effects like you are mentioning. Safari and Firefox are displaying fine, with one of my installs having almost all available Pepper installed on it.

Perhaps this is the new ‘Stagger pane loading’ that you are noticing, which isn’t infact a bug at all.

Edit: Gah.. what Shaun said. ^

As yes, after more testing I seem to be incorrect in the original post. Flickering only happens in Firefox (2.0) and Opera (9) on Windows XP, IE is fine. On OS X it runs smooth as well in Firefox (2.0) and Safari.

All browser cached were forcefully cleared beforehand. Whether stagger pane loading as enabled or disabled made no difference.

Two panes that caused the flickering was FreshView and XXX Strong Mint.

Has an update for Fresh View been released yet?

It’s my favourite Pepper, but it seems to have shrunk in display size since Mint v2.0.. looks all compressed http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/359/ … rabzt6.gif

also, it seems to update itself everytime I refresh an individual pane (like Visits, Referrers or Pages)

Hobbsy, I’m having the same problem. However, considering the author is in med school, we may not see an update for a while. I also really like this pep.
