Mint stopped tracking Visits (& Feeds), but logs everything else

The server got restarted and now Mint seems to be logging everything but the Visits and Feeds panels. I tried reinstalling the Default and Bird Feeder peppers, but still no luck. Potentially related, but I now also get an error when trying to update preferences:

MySQL Error: Got a packet bigger than ‘max_allowed_packet’ bytes. (1153) Query: UPDATE…… (etc)

Help? Thanks in advance.

I pretty much just keep a tab in my browser open to the forums page in hopes that I get a response to this. Maybe if I mention Mimeo, Fever, Horror Vacui, Shortwave, Lessn, not requesting support via twitter, and compassion for having to deal with contractors… <fingers crossed>

Have you sent a support request through the official support contact form yet? http://haveamint.com/contact

I did that, and he replied (for which I’m thrilled). MacManX, thanks for the tip.

The issue was with the max_allowed_packet variable in MySQL, which (if you have access to it on your box/host) is specified in your /etc/mysql/my.cnf file. Previously I had that value set at 16K, but bumped it up to 32K and everything works fine now (after a restart). I think by default that value is 1M, but I had read somewhere that encouraged me to lower it. Obviously it was too low. I now also am more familiar with the “#Mint:Debug” option which can be appended to any URL on your site (turn off your pop-up blocker).
