I’m getting an error message

Mint was unable to connect to the database, make sure that the correct values have been added to config/db.php.

It says Access denied for userXXXXXXXXX using password:Yes.

I called my hosting service technical support and verified that I had filled out the correct values in the config.db

I’m using eNom - and they seem sure that they are compatible.

Any help would be helpful.

Make sure that your database user has been granted all privileges to the database.

Just got off the phone with Enom. They say I have all the privileges. They questioned whether I really “needed” to connect tot he database, since the site is pretty much just an html site.

They have confirmed, and reconfirmed that I have the right settings in my config.db file.

Please help.

Just got the following message from my hosting service:

For security concerns within a shared hosting environment, we are unable to grant all privileges to the xxxxxxxxxx database. However, if you could specify the security permissions, preferences and settings you require for this database, we will forward your request to our developers for consideration.

So… What should I do?

The database user needs to be granted the privileges to select, create, insert, alter, update, drop, delete, lock tables, reference, index, create temporary tables, and create routine (aka “all privileges”) within the MySQL database that you are attempting to install Mint into.

This is not security issue, in fact it’s very common amongst PHP/MySQL web platforms. If Enom cannot accommodate this, which should be your right as a customer granting privileges to your own user accessing your own database, then it’s time to find a new hosting provider that at least understands the fundamentals of MySQL (most do).

They are saying that I have all those permissions. But that I don’t have “root access” to the server- but I have permissions within my database and my tables.

This has become very frustrating. My host says that I have these permissions on the database but not on the root of the server. They are asking me if there is a way to print out what values the config are actually delivering to the server - since we’ve checked the config file visually a number of times - my host wonders if there is a bug in the software.

Unfortunately, a venting e-mail I sent (hastily) to the developer of Mint about my hosting software was misunderstood as a vent against Mint and its developer. That was not my intention. I have the highest respect for Mr. Innman, and have enjoyed using Fever in the past. My e-mail provoked a response about my manners. Now I am unsure if the developer is willing to read my clarification that he was not the target of my anger.

I did check to see if my hosting was compatible. They either lied to me or I’m still having a technical problem deserving of support.. They insist that I have the permissions, that the values in my config file are correct. They don’t understand whether Mint needs root access to the server or merely permissions within my database. That is my question now.

Okay- nevermind.

Can anyone recommend a good economical host? I have literally 4 pages of HTMl and then will be using an a subdomain for a blog service.

Yeah, you don’t need root access. If you hosting provider can verify that the connection details you entered into the config file are correct and that your database user has all privileges, then the issue must be further down on their end.

If you’re looking to switch, I highly recommend asmallorange.com . You can get their lowest plan for only $25/year.

I’ve already started to move everything over to Dreamhost.

This has been a weeklong process. And, of course, I’m having trouble with that too.

Is it possible to install Mint so that it tracks both a Wodpress site on your domain, and the other html sites (non Wordpress) at the same domain>? I’m now unclear having looked at the Wordpress sticky.

Yes, just go to yourdomain.com/mint/?instructions

You’ll see brief instructions and the script tag that you need to add before the closing head tag on any HTML file you wish you track.

Mint will track any site using this script tag within the same domain.
