Does Mint work with Godaddy Shared Hosting??

Hi,

I’m ready to get minted, but tried running the compatibility suite and everything went smoothly until I got to the part where I needed to enter my database information. Unsure which database information to give it, I tried inputting my forums database and it said that it could not connect.

I have a godaddy shared hosted site I’m trying to run the compatibility suite on, and I get to the point where I enter the database details and receive errors stating I need this information and it’s not compatible as a result.

Do you know of anyone who has been successful running MINT on a godaddy shared hosting site? I think the problem lies in entering the server name. I believe godaddy uses something besides localhost, but I called and they said they couldn’t release this information. Please advise. Thanks!

I am still having trouble getting the rest of the Mint app to work, however, I think I can assist with this issue as I just got off the phone with GoDaddy.

Open up your MySQL database connection in the control panel under your account. Create a new MySQL 5.0 database. After the setup has been completed… usually in about 5 minutes, click on the pencil icon next to your database. There will be a page displayed that has all of the info you need, including the server name (note: it can’t be local host as you are not hosting the database locally). Mine was xxx.secureserver.net.

Hope this helps.

PS GoDaddy walked me through this entire process, so I am not sure why they wouldn’t do the same for you… but you might try calling back!

I was successful in getting the mint app to run after a quick re-read of the installation notes. I accidentally uploaded the entire install folder, and not just the “mint” directory after I edited the db.php file. Feel free to post again if your questions haven’t been answered, I would be happy to go over the GoDaddy settings with you.

Best,

Tim

Hey Tim,

Perfect! Using your advice I was able to get the server details. And voila! It works like a charm and was able to connect, looks like I’ll be purchasing mint after all! Woohoo!

Thanks for your help Tim!

Yes, thank you for your assistance Tim!

I’m at a loss….I use GoDaddy’s shared hosting and I can’t get Minto to work at all. I’ve uploaded just the Mint directory in the root, put in the .htaccess file, and I still get a blank page when I go to ronpaulchronilces.com/mint. What am I doing wrong?

tmjm3714,

I just finished troubleshooting an unrelated WordPress problem and it seems that GoDaddy hosting does not immediately “notice” the addition of an .htaccess file. Try again 15 minutes later and your problem may be solved. You probably fixed this by now, but I thought it would be a good reference for future users.

Best, Tony
