Local Search - multiple query strings - feature request

When using MovableType’s new tagging engine, viewing entries by tag actually enacts a search across the blog for said tag. The functionalilty works in a similar manner to MTs local search - even using the same .cgi file - only instead of the query being captured within the ?q= element, the tag is wrapped up in the new ?tag= element.

With this in mind, how hard would it be to change the Local Searches pepper to allow users to set multiple Query strings within the preference pane, perhaps in a similar manner to the ‘multiple’ settings now employed for Secret Crushes. e.g. q|tag. The Path setting would remain same for both types of search on MT.

With this change we should then be able to view all local searches - by query string or by tag when running MT.

That should be an easy addition. I’ll post something shortly.

I’d like to do something similar; my site has both wordpress and a forum, and I’d like to be able to report on both searches (whether aggregate or separated).

Is this possible?

Hi, I’m new of this forum.

I need multiple query strings too.

hey Alessandro, I think Shaun has already implemented this in the newest version of his Local Searches Pepper, available here: haveamint.com/peppermill/pepper/6/local_searches

With the following description:

Now supports regular expression fragments in both the Path and Query preferences (eg. To track two search result pages, /search/?q=test and /forums/search.php?p=test, Path should be set to (/search/|/forum/search.php) and Query should be set to (q|p). There is no need to escape / since # is used as the regular expression delimiter.)
