Trends 3.0

Finally, the true Mint 2.0 compatible Trends has been released. I’ve spent the last week or so looking over what the new Mint 2.0 API can do, and utilized what made sense in Trends. Inside Trends 3.0 you’ll find Mint 2.0’s new on-the-fly time interval switching on every tab. This will hopefully make it easier to get the specific data you’re after. I’ve noticed this has come particularly handy on the New / Old tabs. By being able to change the time on the fly, you can find those pages which have recently been created but just aren’t popular enough to make the Popular tab.

Besides the new time changing ability, Trends has a few more tricks up its sleeve. It now supports hourly page history (a previous limitation). This will help when you’re taking advantage of the time changing ability. Also, the page history will stop displaying rows when the rest will be zero (a problem when comparing by weeks and having a limited database size). Finally, a number of nasty bugs have been squashed that have somehow slipped past Brett and myself through the version we’ve released. Most notably the time on the New and Old tabs was horribly off.

I hope you enjoy this new version. If you have any more suggestions about what you’d like to see in Trends, keep them coming. You can download Trends 3.0 in Mint’s Peppermill, the only place it will be available from here on out.

I’m having a problem with Trends 2.1/3.0 and I was wondering if anyone else was seeing the same thing.

I’d been using 2.02 without any problem, but when I tried to upgrade to 2.1 a few days ago I got the following message after the install:

Mint could not locate "BD_Trends" Pepper. Missing from: pepper/brettdewoody/trends/ If you recently updated Mint, you may have forgotten to copy over the Pepper from the previous version.

As far as Mint was concerned, the Trends pepper no longer existed. All of the files were properly in place and the permissions were fine, but it wasn’t being recognized. If I went to Install, Trends wasn’t even listed as one of the available peppers.

I went back to 2.02 and Trends reappeared as an Installation option, so I decided to stay at 2.02 for the time being. This evening I downloaded 3.0 and tried again, but I experienced the same problem as before.

Has anyone else had the same experience, or am I out to lunch…or both?

grettir, keep an eye on this thread. I believe you two have the same problem.

I just installed trends_v304 and ran into the same problem:

Mint could not locate “BD_Trends” Pepper. Missing from: pepper/brettdewoody/trends/ If you recently updated Mint, you may have forgotten to copy over the Pepper from the previous version.

Figured it out…. File permissions. Depending on how your web hosting account is setup, you need to have at least read permissions for the web server.

For me it was setting the permissions to: rwxr—r—

How in the world is this permission issue still present? I thought I tackled that long ago. OuterLevel, did you have a previous version of Trends downloaded prior to installation.
