I believe I may have a somewhat unusual web server / db set up and suspect it could be the source of some bad behavior from Mint I’m now experiencing.
I’ve had the basic Mint install running smoothly for a couple years on two sites that are self-hosted by friends.
Initially, mySQL and phpMyAdmin were running on the same server that was serving both sites and my two databases being accessed by the sites. For one reason or another, mySQL or phpMyAdmin began having problems that were unresolvable by those with more skillz than I, so my two db’s migrated to a Dreamhost account we use for testing. My sites continue to be served from our self-hosted box.
The basic Mint install worked fine until Saturday when I installed Secret Crush and Geo Mint in both sites in the prescribed manner. (I know I installed the peppers correctly because I purchased a key on Saturday and installed Mint 2.15 with Secret Crush and Geo Mint on lgne.org. Works great.)
My two sites are another thing. Installed both peppers in Mint in both sites. Tables are written to both db’s successfully. Great.
However;
linotypesetting.com does not display the Secret Crush or Geo Mint panes. Prefs page doesn’t show them in the enabled / disabled column, nor in the row of installed peppers at page top.
interrobangletterpress.com shows panes for all installed peppers including SC and GM and everything looks right on the prefs page.
However, the IPs SC is logging are our internal IP, and GM does not plot any pins even though site hits are logged translated into our internal IP.
SO, obviously there’s a problem with serving sites and db’s on different machines. How does one fix this? Can this be fixed? Sure it can…
Any insight is appreciated.
