Database RESET?

Strange, I logged into my mint ver. 1 today and BAM my entire database got deleted….it was all there yesterday, but today all my page referreals, popular pages, and keyword searches, xxxstrongmint, popular day etc. got reset to zero and started its count again.

However my overall and monthly unique visits and page views are still there.

I double checked my database size and it dropped to 2MB, when yesterday it was getting close to my 25MB limit.

Could it be that it hit the database limit and purged itself? Is there a way to get it back?

Can anyone help me?

I’m no expert on Mint, but I can hopefully provide some insight on what happened.

Mint’s data is stored in two separate tables. The one table stores settings and things such as your visit counts. The other table stores all the data used in tracking visitors for the bulk of all Peppers in Mint.

The settings table is never purged, but the main data table has data removed every 24 hours (I believe) provided you meet a set limit such as a size or timespan. Only data older than that date or larger than the limit should be removed, not the whole database.

Perhaps something went wrong on removing the old data, but I would find that unlikely. I tend to think something went wrong on your host’s site, but I’m not an expert on the subject.

As far as retrieving the data, if you have a recent backup you could restore just that table (just make sure the SQL doesn’t empty the table), otherwise you’re out of luck unless your host has backups.

Did you happen to do anything abnormal on your site before this happened? Messing around in phpMyAdmin or installing any new Peppers?

Hi Ronald,

Thanks for taking the time to write this up.

Ultimatly its ok, but I would have been nice to track my most popular pages. However i have a popular page plug in for my WP so thats ok as well.

No I have not been playing with the tables or any preferences. So I find it strange. However I just renewed my hoasting contract, I wonder if that affected it…

I would submit a ticket to your host to see if anything happened on their side.

Ronald is correct. Mint trims excess data when it hits the limit, it does not wipe the entire database. You should definitely contact your host to see if they had a database failure or something else that might explain what happened.

Hey folks, the same happened to us after exactly 2 years (Nov. 2005 - Nov. 2007) of perfect “minting”. All other databases of the site are ok, but the mint one only has the visit-counts left in it. If anyone has an idea how this could have happened, please let us know.

Thanks and best regards, Lars
