Any recommendations regarding good ways to publish photographs online? Right now I just serve static html+jpgs, though I’ve played with SlideShowPro in the past … and looked into tools like MovableType with some hacks.
Thoughts?

pixelpost is another one I’ve seen touted but not yet played with.
Plogger is great if you have an existing design to slot it into as an include. Looks a bit bare otherwise though.
If you like Flash, there’s also this: jeroenwijering.com/?item=Flash_Image_Rotator
I’ve used others but none longer than ZenPhoto, which I think is fantastic. zenphoto.org
Plogger is very easy to integrate into an existing site. The downloadable version has some validation problems. The fixes are described in a post on the forum.
My audience was non-technical volunteers. All of them appreciated the simple Plogger tabbed administrative interface. In fact they liked it so much that I extended it by adding tabs to manage updates for news items, calendar items, and pages. So for our little site, Plogger has become a simple mini-CMS!
I second Atlas. ZenPhoto is great! Easy to skin, and has a great “ajaxified” administration panel. I’ve also used it’s database to generate an xml file for Slideshow Pro. You can view my implementation of it here: tammiesprings.com/zp/. (I think I have around 2000 photos.)
I think all the above are great suggestions.
Personally, I use flickr.com to host my photos, then import them onto my website which runs on Movable Type. There’s a nifty MT plugin here: http://mt-hacks.com/flickrphotos.html that pulls the photos from flickr to my site. I like this method because it allows me to control the styling of the page better and use such JS functions like Highslide or Lightbox.
You can see it in action http://ma.ttada.ms/photos.php
